How to choose a face oil?
As per your Skin
Face oils are becoming increasingly popular as a skincare ingredient due to their numerous benefits. However, with so many options available, selecting the best face oil for your skin can be difficult.
To help you, here's an article that discusses the best types of face oil for each skin type, as well as some essential tips for reaping the most beauty benefits from them.
Let's first understand what is Face Oil.
Face oils can be emollients, which add moisture, or occlusives, which seal in moisture. Each face oil contains a distinct blend of essential nutrients and fatty acids that nourish and revitalize skin by fortifying and repairing the lipid barrier within the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin).
How to choose a face oil as per skin type?
This is where the confusion lies!! Now that we have read the benefits of face oils it's time to understand which oil would be the best for us.
There have majorly 5 skin types so we have bifurcated them accordingly:
1. Face oil for NORMAL SKIN
The skin we all wish to have but not all are lucky enough!! A skin that is free of clogged pores, dryness, and irritation.
- ARGAN OIL
Argon Oil also known as Liquid Gold, due to the various benefits it provides for the skin. Rich and soothing, this face oil contains vitamin E—an antioxidant and works best in preventing those pesky and unwanted dark spots, fine lines, and other kinds of skin damage.
- OIL OF SQUALANE
Squalene is a naturally occurring oil that is produced not only by olives and rice bran but also by your own skin. However, it is unstable on its own, reacts violently with oxygen, and can eventually clog the pores.Furthermore, it can stimulate collagen production, making your skin appear firmer and plumper for an instant glow!
2. Face oil for DRY SKIN
Dry skin produces less sebum than normal skin, causing cracking, peeling, and even itching. Look for face oils that are high in oleic acid to help hydrate the skin, lock in moisture, and reduce irritation caused by dryness.
- AVOCADO OIL
Avocado face oil contains nutrients that nourish and moisturize dry skin, such as vitamin E, lecithin, and potassium. These nutrients are easily absorbed by the epidermis, aiding in the formation of new skin.
- ALMOND OIL
Almond Oil has been used for centuries to treat dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. This oil, which is high in vitamin A, can also stimulate the production of new skin cells, resulting in smooth fine lines.
3. Face oil for OILY SKIN
Do you always appear greasy when you look in the mirror? If you said yes, you most likely have oily skin.
This skin type is distinguished by larger pores and a shiny complexion. However, you may disagree about how face oils can help your oily skin. On the contrary, it can aid in the control of excess sebum secretion, making you appear less oily.
- TEA TREE OIL
Because of its antifungal and antibacterial properties, tea tree oil is an excellent skin treatment for those with oily skin. By penetrating deep into the skin and unclogging your pores, it can help stabilize your sebaceous glands.
- GRAPESEED OIL
Grapeseed oil is a natural astringent that can remove excess grease from your face. It can also tighten your pores and mattify your skin.
4. Face oil for ACNE-PRONE SKIN
Because excessive sebum production can lead to clogged pores and acne, if you have oily skin, you may also have acne-prone skin.
It's best to avoid irritant acne treatments and instead use face oils. It can replenish your skin's nourishment, which has been depleted by the harsh ingredients found in most beauty products.
- ROSEHIP OIL
Rosehip oil which is high in skin-nourishing vitamins and essential fatty acids, can be used to treat inflamed and acne-prone skin. It also has phenols, which have been shown to have antibacterial and antifungal properties without clogging your pores.
- POMEGRANATE OIL

5. Face oil for SENSITIVE SKIN
Itching, drying, redness, and even burning are common symptoms of sensitive skin. As a result, you must be cautious about what you apply to your face, as it may exacerbate these complications. Here are some face oils that are good for your skin.
- ALOE VERA OIL
Aloe vera is the ideal face oil for sensitive skin because it is high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and fatty acids. These ingredients help to protect the skin from harmful bacteria, soothe irritation, and nourish damaged skin.
Furthermore, it is a natural astringent, making it suitable for sensitive skin that is also acne-prone.
- MORINGA OIL
Moringa like aloe vera has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help to heal sensitive skin. It can also be used as a moisturizer for dry, sensitive skin. Simply apply this light oil under your makeup.
6. Face oil for COMBINATION SKIN
Dryness in some areas of the face and oiliness in others, such as the T-Zone, characterize combination skin (forehead, nose, chin). Because skin types differ, the type of face oil you use should also be tailored to the various areas of the face.
- JOJOBA OIL
Jojoba oil can break down and dissolve sebum, allowing you to control excess oiliness in certain areas of your face. It is, however, a lightweight and breathable oil that adds moisture to drier areas. Because of this, it is ideal for people with combination skin.
- MARULA OIL
Marula oil has antioxidant properties that help protect your skin away from pollution and other environmental stressors. It can also be easily absorbed by your skin which makes it a great moisturizer.
7. Face oil for PIGMENTED SKIN
Pigmentation refers to the coloring of the skin which depends on specialized cells that produce melanin. Melanin is the pigment that imparts different shades and colours to the eye's hair, skin, mucous membranes, and retina. People with low deposits of melanin have a fair skin tone and the ones with high deposition have a darker skin tone.
Grapeseed oil is a natural astringent that can remove excess grease from your face. It can also tighten your pores and mattify your skin.
Pomegranate oil fights bacteria in your pores that cause inflammation and breakouts on your face. This oil is ideal for those with oily skin because it is lightweight and will not leave you looking greasy!
8. Face oil for ROSACEA SKIN
If your face looks like you're blushing and you get bumps that are a bit like acne, you might have a skin condition called Rosacea.
Rosehip which is high in skin-nourishing vitamins and essential fatty acids, can be used to treat inflamed and acne-prone skin. It also has phenols, which have been shown to have antibacterial and antifungal properties without clogging your pores.
Coconut oil has anti-viral and anti-microbial properties that limit the growth of bacteria and reduce the appearance of swelling acne. It can also be used as a deep facial cleanser which gently exfoliates the skin and unclogs your pores leading to healthier skin.
Overall, this essential oil can reduce the amount of grease in your face while still keeping your face hydrated.
9. Face oil for AGEING SKIN
Skin changes are one of the most obvious signs of ageing. Wrinkles and sagging skin are signs of advancing age. Another obvious sign of ageing is hair whitening or greying.
Chamomile Oil has been used over the years as a natural remedy to help you fall asleep thanks to its soothing and calming benefits.

The topical application of chamomile oil can work wonders for the health of your skin, from treating wrinkles and lines caused due to ageing, acne, and acne scars to moisturizing your skin and giving you an even skin tone.
Lavender essential oil is not only a powerful antioxidant, but it also aids in the production of collagen. These anti-ageing properties make it ideal for tightening ageing and sagging skin, as well as reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
